Across the integrity field, the roster model has become both a career opportunity and a design challenge. It promises flexibility, independence, and access to organizations that already know your value.

But behind the tidy language of “deployment readiness” lies a quieter truth. Joining a roster feels less like landing a role and more like waiting for a signal that may or may not come. You are technically in, but not yet activated. Some months, the work arrives in waves. Other times, the silence stretches longer than you expect.

That is the part few people prepare you for. The roster is not a job. It is a signal. And signals only matter if you keep broadcasting.

Roster calls make a regular appearance in the Integrity Career Institute job board. Investigation, ethics and legal functions across the UN, INGOs, and MDBs keep adding junior professionals and experts to their databases. On paper, that looks like constant opportunity.
