CPI 2025 and the Skills Integrity Professionals Actually Need
The CPI's first decline in over a decade signals contested integrity environments — and the practical, learnable skills professionals will need for them.
Last week, Transparency International released the 2025 Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI), which shows a global average of 42 – the first decline in over a decade.
Only five countries now score above 80.
The gap between open civic space and repressed environments remains stark.
Full democracies average far higher scores than authoritarian regimes, and countries that restrict media and NGO activity consistently perform worse.

The report also highlights corruption risks in climate and infrastructure spending. Large public budgets, compressed timelines, and political urgency create environments where weak procurement and oversight translate directly into delivery failures. When adaptation funds are diverted, the consequences are not theoretical. They show up in damaged homes, disrupted services, and exposed communities.
Those are the headlines.
